• Getting to Know Dr. Kempf

West Charleston Animal Hospital's Dr. Kempf is one of our clients' most favorite doctors, so we thought we'd share a little bit more about him with everyone. Look for more profiles of the doctors and staff at WCAH over the next month on the front page of the website.

Dr. Kempf's road to his career at West Charleston was a long one, and one that he is thankful for.

"I went to veterinary school and did my undergrad at Purdue University," Dr. Kempf said. "I graduated in 2000 and went on to work at another hospital for three years before I eventually came here and started up West Charleston."

Before his medical training, Dr. Kempf actually had much experience working with animals.

"I was born and raised in Indiana," he said. "I grew up on a farm and we had cattle and horses, so I've been around animals all my life."

Like many veterinarians, Dr. Kempf knew from a young age what he wanted to do with his life.

"Being on a farm at a young age definitely influenced me, being around animals," he said. "I was always interested when the veterinarian would come to the farm and deliver calves and things like that. Pretty early on I knew I wanted to work with animals."

While the path that led him to West Charleston was not easy, Dr. Kempf is very happy to be here.

"I think what separates us from others is our excellent customer service," he said. "We also provide top of the line medical care and the people that work here really care about animals."

"I have a great staff, a lot of them have been with me for a long time," Dr. Kempf added. "They're well trained, they create great customer service, and they're just a great staff.

"The thing we do best is communicating with the clients," he said. "I think we're really good at everything, as far as all the different services we offer, but I think that level of communication really puts us over the top."

To Dr. Kempf, one of the most important aspects of pet ownerships is education, and he places extra emphasis on making sure his clients are informed about their pet's health.

"The best tip I have for pet owners is to bring their pet in for regular physical exams," he said. "If you don't examine an animal, there's no way you can find anything. After things happen it's easy to wonder why, but most problems can be prevented if you catch them early, that's why regular exams are so important."

Dr. Kempf has been married for nearly 10 years and has three daughters. He also has a dog named Jazzy and a cat named Jose. Dr. Kempf’s hobbies include athletics, snowboarding, weight lifting, and attending UNLV sports events.
